What's the deal with Nested Tables and SEO?

Google strips the HTML out of a document similar to the php function strip_html(), so whats the big deal about nested tables? why does it matter?

its more to do with the order of elements and the way they load. If you have a 3 column site using a table 1 row high and 3 cols wide. Then in the actual HTML, the centre column comes after the left.

If search engines look at the html, it is ofter assumed that the higher up something is in the html the more important. therefore with the table layout above, the left column (which could contain irelevent (sp?) content - ads, nav, junk) would take on more meaning than a centre column which contains all the words, headings and content a SE needs.

as far as I know, if 2 sites - once using entirly CSS (no tables) and one using tables (like above), the CSS site being properly structure with the centre column first in the HTML. then the CSS version will appear high in search engine listings as the importan content is loaded earlier in the HTML

    hope this helps
