    Does PHP work with Alibaba?

I tried the tutorial "PHP and MySql" and can't get PHP to work with my web server. I'm using Alibaba. Whe I try the Today.php page it doesn't give any errors, just:"Today's Date (according to this Web server) is" and that's it. The source still looks like this: <HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Today's Date</TITLE></HEAD><BODY><P>Today's Date (according to this Web server) is<?php
    echo( date("l, F dS Y.") );
    ?></BODY></HTML>

    Any suggestions?

    TIA,
    Rich

the link that that article points to is broken? which does not bode well, why not try apache? www.apache.net

or if you want something simpler www.badblue.com have 'bad blue' a simple small server omniprohttpd is another good web-server for home development.

If you have tried Apache but have problems configuring it tyr http://www.firepages.com.au/devindex.htm?from=dev3 which has PHP/MySQL/Apache/phpMyAdmin pre-configured for windows

alibaba ? never heard of that and no wonder because it's for Win 95 and NT.

it has been told that this server (the alibaba) support CGI .. maybe simple cgi only. and nothing about PHP were stated there.

so look like your alibaba server not supporting PHP.

it's better for you to use Apache. i suggest you to download PHPTriad 2.1 (can be found on download.com .. i forgot where i download it before)

if you just a support for PHP. maybe omnihttpd can serve you also. i've been told that omihttpd support PHP. not try it yet. also can be found on download.com

I've tried everything I can think of so I guess I'll need to either go with Apache or not use Php.

Yes the link to the review works, but the link in the review itself to the builders of alibaba is broken, which is where one may go to try and find any support.

Like I said , this is not a good start, & giving up PHP because an obscure server will not run it is .... well its up to you, all the other major players have been mentioned in this thread I would suggest you check some of them out, www.xitami.com is another one, but remember there is probably a good reason that Apache is the most popular web-server out there.

That regiew says that Alibaba supports CGI. PHP can be installed on windows as a CGI module - so all you need to do is install PHP as a cgi module and then figure out how to get Alibaba to send requests to the PHP cgi program whenever a .php page is loaded.

I tried setting a Mimetype in Alibaba, but when I open the browser and try the test it prompts me to either download or open the file. Maybe I'm doing that wrong??? I've tried text/html - PHP.

I've tried putting it in the system path also.

    Ideas???

    TIA,
    Rich
