Standards for a new "web designer"

Hi one of my friends just started web design (well bought himself a domain and dreamweaver) and has made a site. Then when I told him the layouts all ruined in firefox, he wont beleive me its his fault and not firefoxs fault. I'm finding it really hard to explain to him the whole concept cos he just keeps saying more people use IE so IE must be right. Does anyone have any good ways to show somebody they are in the wrong and IE isnt right?

Yeah I did that and it come up with 43 errors, but the problem im having is convincing to him that thats the standard and that IE is not the standard because it has more users.

If he's having that much trouble being convinced then let him think how he wants. He'll come around once he realizes that he's losing clients to other firms that do more extensive testing

A somewhat recent and relevant news article from the BBC might give your friend something to think about.

FF is my main browser, and if I go to a site that doesn't seem to work with it, or the worst are the sites that say "Must use IE on this site" I will not return to it. I think it shows laziness and sloppiness on a developer's part to code only to a specific browser. Neither one is "right" - the browser wars have just made things a little irrational.
