    Vbulletin "online" tracking

Vbulletin manage to tell you the exact page each user is on and when their last activity was.

What is the best way to implement this system, is it a case of adding current activity/last activity to the user data and writing to it on every single page visit?

The php.net's own Session Handling Functions gives a first glance of implementing user tracking on your site.

Make a MySQL table called activities with two columns: username, action. Include a query on every page like:

    Code:
UPDATE activities SET action = $action WHERE username = $username
You could have each page have a dynamic action set under the $action variable.
