converting us census data to a mysql db
I'm starting to write an application that utilizes the us census data (ftp://ftp2.census.gov/geo/tiger/) address information to draw maps... Looking at all that data, I'm getting a little frightened. My first task will be converting everything there into a mysql database...
Since it's a commonly adapted resource, I was wondering if somebody knows a place I can download already converted data, or maybe somewhere I can download a script that will download and convert this all for me (linux preferable).
If not, how would you go about doing this? Is it something that can be done fairly easily, or should I seek help from somebody that has more mysql experience than me (around five months so far)?
Thanks for the help,
