Question re: Adsense and vBulletin Meta Tags

I have AdSense at the top of my message board, after the first post in every thread (only visible to guests), and as the last post in every thread.

My AdSense returns are VERY relevant to the site 'in general' (ie the Meta tags), but they don't change too much in relationship to the actual thread.

For instance, if there is an off topic thread about 'cars', the AdSense returns are frequently relevant to the rest of my site, rather than the actual thread.

Could my meta tags be throwing things off?

Google focuses a lot more on the actual content of the page, so I don't think meta tags would make much difference (I've tried fiddling with meta tags, and never changed my Adsense ads that way).

Setting up your forum so that the topic title is shown in the URL of each post would probably solve your problem. Before you ask, I have no idea how to do this, but have seen it on quite a few forums. If you want help setting something like this up, try asking around in some of the web programming forums here at Sitepoint.

Could you post (or pm) some examples of sites that have this?

By default all vbulletin forums do this, I'm not sure about other programs. Of course with a little work (templates or source depending on the package) you can change the title to simply contain the post tile vs your site title and the post tile which generally preforms even better.

Nope, just open your SHOWTHREAD template and be sure the <title> tag is set to: $thread[title] (you can add your own site name before or after this if you so desire).
