Ack, alignment bug in IE 6 Refresh

    http://www.adecec.net/voce-nustrale/infu.html

Try this with any browser that's v4.0+, then try with IE6 Refresh. IE6R does a center align while there's nothing like that in the code !

I don't have IE6 to see what you mean, but using Netscape 4.08, the page is center aligned. Is it not supposed to be? Because the first TD tag has a center attribute.

I went through the same issue. It's not a bug, it's standards compliance

    When you have something like
    <div align="center"><table><tr><td> ... </td></tr></table</div>
then the contents of the table will be centered because they are wrapped with a <center> tag (in this case, a div, same thing tho). The solution is to use CSS. Center the table directly by attaching a stylesheet to the table and using margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto

It makes no sense to put a DIV around a TABLE just to get the table centered Shin Ma, just center the TABLE directly. Or use CSS like prowsej suggested.

The div centering was my particular problem. With his code it appears that he is uisng nested tables and the contents of the outermost table is centered, hence the contents of the inner tables will also be centered.

I would have centered the table directly if only it worked with Netscape
Anyway, thanks for clearing my doubts, I was really surprised to see this weird behaviour, since Mozilla & Opera displayed everything ok...

You can center a TABLE directly with Netscape. It works for me every time I've done it.

The ALIGN attribute for the TABLE tag is deprecated as of HTML 4.0. It should be supported in IE 4.x and Netscape 4.x and above, but since it's deprecated you might want to avoid using it. But I'm not sure if this is what creole meant by centering a table directly.

    ah...got it. Thanks.

    That was what I meant.

The bad thing is that deprecated and "no longer works in this browser" are two totally different things. For example, will IE6 still support the CENTER attribute of the TABLE tag?

Yep, align still works in IE6 even with the doctype set to XHTML strict, however it won't validate.
