    Grabbing Information with Javascript

A programmer friend of mine asked me recently, what all is possible when grabbing information from a users computer using javascript?

His intentions are to do some sort of user tracking, a generation of unique computer systems. Basically what he would like to do is in a sense, fish net any information he can get or what the user will allow him to get and create a unique user from it. IP address' just doesn't cut it for he doesn't want to miss out on wireless users and whatnot.

But anyway, what information can be had using Javascript and cookies and whatnot, pending the limitations set by users such as blocking JS and cookies, what can be done to get around those barriers? Tell me what you think...

    Thanks,

    Arik

    *sigh*

This is one of the biggest reasons why people disable JavaScript.

The best way to track users is to have them sign up for your site and then always sign in.

I wish I could remember where it was that I had my last conversation on how best to track users.
    We miss you, Dan Schulz.
