Google is the next Big Brother. Check out this fiction flash movie - it's closer to reality than you might think:

Funny flash movie I like it and - of course it's like a film noir - I don't think, it's going to happen. (but you never know)

I tend to believe this is all true.
Google needs to have some human-powered statistics to use when building further plans on improving its search results. In other words, this is the way they can determine the circuimstances (key phrases, whatever...) under which the search results are more irrelevant. Once they know these circuimstances, they can build further plans on improving search results.

These jobs were listed on a few UK recruitment agencies last year. Work from home spending X hours a day performing tasks and then giving feedback.

Like others have said this is something all companies do and I am sure they will use the results to tweak how results are calculated.

I wonder how wide the project was...

When people learned how to manipulate dmoz, google almost removed importance of the (now spammy) dmoz. When people learn to manipulate Google labs, Google will go bankrupt.. If this thing exists long ago, t is why Google results are so bad - because of humans

People do make errors. And some very good sites sometimes use what one idiot may consider "bad site".
