    Mysql table errors (odd)

    This is proving quite irritating, I dont know if it's my host of poor coding practice or what but some of my tables just go awol on occasion. I go to phpmyadmin and in replace of the 'records' column on the main database index I get

    Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /www/nintendoeye.gamehosts.com/phpmyadmin/phpMyAdmin/lib.inc.php on line 507

    From there I try clicking on 'browse' and get

    MySQL said: Can't find file: './******/ratings.frm' (errno: 13)

    I bleeped out the name of my database for reasons of paranoia, sorry.

    This also happens with my vbulletin software fairly often, and is happening right now. I need to know what the hell is going on because it only does it on some tables, wheras others are still working leaving the site with readable content but errors in places which is very ugly.

    Help appreciated

    Can you explain this. I'm a linux newbie. I know that perror() is a function in the C language but when I what you have above this is what I get:

    $ perror 13
    bash: perror: command not found

    Any idea why random tables would be denied access and not others in the same database? I'm certain my host doesn't go around just turning the different tables on and off. Seems odd.

    It sounds like the settings in tables_priv and/or columns_priv have been altered. Either because someone has placed entries in there that block certain users from certain tables or because they have become corrupted. I would be worried that the database has become corrupted. Try and dump (backup) as much data as you can NOW!
