Run multiple blogs from one wordpress install?

Is it possible to run multiple blogs with unique authors, posts, categories, etc, all from one wordpress install? If so, how?

Aye, actually, MU doesn't seem to do what I want.

I want to start a network of blogs (all as subdomains of the root domain) and I want a way that I can basically make multiple WP installs, and have a central panel (if possible) to add posts to individual blogs and stuff all from one spot.

A difficult proposition i guess but a if possible that would be gr8.

I think MU uses rewrite rules for different blogs, right? If you have wild-card DNS on your server, you can modify the MU's rewrite rules to make it look like a sub-domain for each blog!

u probbaly need something like blogger.com for yourself, right ?
