    Hi all,

I've been trying to get a solid nice design going- all of failed. It is for my new website- entitled 'SFWoA Online' (http://sfwoa.atomic-online.net)

Well all i'm asking is if some design guru can help me out? I would really appreciate it...

My designs always come out sucky- look at this one for an example- http://sfwoa.atomic-online.net/newdesign.shtml

Help you out in what way?

"Design Help" is a broad topic - so broad that entire forums are created for it. In fact you're looking at it right now

What do you need help with?

Why not post a contest in the trading post forum and offer a prize of some sort. That generally gets more people to have a go.

Or you could try visiting www.coolhomepages.com or www.cwd.dk and have a look at some of the designs there for inspiration.

There are also websites that offer free templates like www.freewebtemplates.com or www.guistuff.com

    Hope this helps

on second thought, sytebuilder is just a template based page builder, and you seem to have a handle on your page already, just needs a little tweaking

Things that need to be improved (alot of them)

    1) If you are looking for professional, as you indicated in your PM, you need to loste the "clipart" looking graphics. Sorry, dude.

    2) I would try to get a main title page with navigation links on the front page in such a way that you don't have to scroll...at least not much. You can spider other info out of nav links.

    3) Put your nav bar in an easier to access location, like all the way up top, or to the left. Avoid the gaps in between the nav buttons.

    4) find a color scheme and stick with it. Lose some of the white in the background. Can you design a background picture and use it?

Take care of those things and come back. I'll have more. You'll get it yet, don't sweat it. The point is a quality site, not how quickly you can post it.

When I need to design a page and IM drawing a blank, I set out a few hours to just surf the web. Look around and write down certain things you like at different places. Then with all these things you like create something new and unique.

the key is flow...It all needs to flow together. Colors need to mesh, the graphics need to connect the user with your message, the page cannot be too cluttered. I typically will sit down with Photoshop open and my HTML program and just start playing. Not trying to "design" per-se, just playing. Sooner or later, I start to see some things I like. Once that happens, I take that building blocak and play some more, but play around that element. it might be a graphic. Might be a rollover. You will also need to sit down, AWAY FROM YOUR COMPUTER, with a notebook and pencil, some quiet music, an alcoholic beverage and just write....write write write write write. Write down pages you'll need. Write down graphics (general) that you need to create or find. Write down ideas. Write down content you need to make sure you include, write down layout (between pages) like a flowchart. Just write. Get your ideas on paper. THEN, after you have played and played and played, then wrote and wrote and wrote, THEN you can start playing with design. You have an idea by this point of what you'd like to see. You sit down and you try to make it happen. If you don't know how to do something, praise God for Sitepoint...we can help. You will begin to see your pages come together. ^You may have some minor deviations from your plan, but for the most part, you will have the idea already from all your projects.

    HTH.

My layout I made with content

Is that good? I am using SSI for the footer and headers and for the navigation. I am also using CSS, which I have to fix in a few lines on the navigation.

MUCH better! Way way way beyond the other one. There are still some issues. Namely, I'm not keen on the colors, but that's just me. Good use of CSS as far as I can tell. I think I might use a different color for dead links. Biggest issue I see without being too in depth is there's still way too much content in the bottom bar. Also, can you make your logo a wee bit bigger. Just a wee bit, not too much.

Thanks! I used SSI for the header so the logo is changeable. I have a new logo already in the plans- thanks for noticing it again.

On the color situation I think I am going to stay how it is. Most people I showed didn't mind it- unless you gave me some color suggestions.

I am trying to break up the content in the footer bar. It may have to stay like that- I really don't see on how I am going to seperate it. I have the Six Flags copyright info on each page to save my butt. It MIGHT have to stay.

But thanks for the suggestions! Keep em' coming!
