    check duplicate name

    hi,
    I have a signup form.

I would like to be able to check for duplicate entries during the signup.

    E.g. Check for duplicate
    1. Usernames
    2. Phone numbers

How could this be achieved ?

My code basically is two fold.

    1. A recordset that checks
if not recordset.bof and not recordset.eof then
'do something. And redirect to say the value exists
    end if

    2. Run a SP to do an insert and authentication

    Thanks

    Duplicate Field Checking Code

Take the Field Name and select query based on that field
    Ex
sql=select (coloumName) from TableName where FieldName(db)=request("FieldName")
    if Not rs.eof then
    'Record Founded
    Means Dupilcate value
    Else
    value does not exist

    end if

    hi,
I already have a script that does a comparison of the field name and the username.

What i am searching for is how to create efficiency here.

    1. My script only compares one value and does a recordset.eof and .bof check

    SOLUTION
    2. is it possible to read an output value from the SP ?

    tnx
