Your homepage is still in the index. so why did you lose your ranking? who knows. google's algo is very complex and takes many things into consideration. without knowing anything about your site, no one can tell you why your ranking fell.

Sad to say it happens to good web sites all the time. One day on the first page of SERPs, the next on the 48th page. Maybe in two days or 6 monthes you will be back on the first page of SERPs. It's a Google thing.

    How about this:

Google's algorithm is a pile of sh*t. My forum dropped from 9 to 140 something back up to 9 then now down to 46--all in a matter of 24 hours. Granted it is only 2 weeks old. But still, that's absurd.

I think Google may be over rated. My forum lists number 2 in Yahoo, number 46 in Google. Guess which search engine is my new favorite...

    From the SEO FAQ:

My site has disappeared from the SERPs. Why?

This seems to happen on occasion and the natural tendency is to think you've been banned. However, this is rarely the case (if you've been doing bad things then you're not asking this question because you already know why this has happened!). For reasons known only to the powers to be this just happens. After a while, usually next update, things return to normal. What can you do about it? Nothing really. You can write to Google but all you'll get is one of the generic responses that doesn't really tell you anything. The best thing you can do is to sit back, have a beer or three, and wait for things to be set right again....on their own.
