Mods :After I've posted, please don't show it as a new post to me
Hi,
This is just a small request for someone to change the way threads are presented.
Basically, after I've posted and I go back to the forum, I see the little red envelope with the dot in the middle which means there's a new post in a thread that I've posted in. I don't want to see that. See, when I see that I think that I need to go back and maybe reply to what someone's said about one of my posts. I end up revisiting the pages I've just posted in just so that I don't see the red envelope the next time I'm on the main page.
Does this make sense? And can you someone do something about it?
Thanks a lot.

vBulletin 3.5 is FINALLY going to fix that (though it'll be optional, and with the load SP's servers are on, they'll probably leave it as it is now). The mods can't do much about it right now, I don't think.

Thanks for the info... I think the mods could ask Kevin Yank to sort something out. He's a smart guy.

He may be smart, but I think they have other priorities.

You really think it would take that much time?
I'm sure they do have other priorities - everyone's busy - I just thought as this is the support forum and I'd like a bit of support, it would be a good idea to ask. I'm sure I'm not the only one that finds it irritating.

I don't think it's that big of a deal. It shows the last poster. If it's you, don't read the thread.

Forget it then if you don't think it's that big of a deal. As I said, I find it irritaiting. It's an immediate thing - the page comes up and I see red envelopes with little dots in them and I think 'Right, I'll see what's going on...' then I look at the name and see it was me and think 'oh...' You know, I'd like to skip the whole process. Maybe it is just me...
Like I said, if Mike the Advisor thinks it's no big deal, then I must be easily irritated and should just forget about it...
Thanks for the support.Last edited by BonRouge; May 25, 2005 at 20:57.

I've never even noticed the little envelopes, actually... I usually look at the down-arrows which disappear after you view the post -- and I mainly look at the last poster part.

Well, to me, the most important threads are the ones where I've already contributed and may be part of some kind of ongoing discussion or whatever. When I see... You know - forget it. It was just a thought. I thought someone here could just take this little irritant out of my life. You know what it's like - there's a little thing that happens every day and - for whatever reason - you just wish it would stop...

BonRouge,
I also find this slightly irritating, although I mangage to live with. If I can get everything my way I prefer getting it fixed though.
It's Tom (mmj) that is our webmaster so it's him that will fix such things. My guess is that, if he's going to fix this, he will wait until he has intalled vB 3.5, cause if such feature isn't implemented in our current version it will require a hack to fix it. Tom has said that he wants to keep the number of hacks down to a minimum. This is to make upgrading easier.
Waiting til vB 3.5 is installed and new servers are in place seems to be the option atm, I guess.

I've always found this to be a little irritating too.
I'd say it was a significant flaw in the vB system that marks threads / forums read (the system really doesn't do it consistently at all at the moment) but the guys at vB would say that its not a flaw - it's behaving exactly as it was intended to. In any case a fix is promised for vB 3.5 - which gives me another reason to look forward to it's release

Yeah, you're not on your own with this. It bothers me, too.

It was kind of confusing for me when it started to happen, but I got used to it - I just look at the last poster before clicking the link thread.

It's good to know it's not just me.
