    Best Way to Spend $250-300

    Hello,

Just starting a community forum and I'm wondering what is the best way/place to spend $250-$300 on advertising to get the most bang for the buck and get the forum heard of.

    Thanks,

    Mike

You can always give it do me

Anyway, promoting a forum can be difficult. Your best bet is to join other forums (of course SitePoint) and place your link in your sig. You can try running campaigns on PPC engines like AdWords, Overture, FindWhat, and Mamma. Purchasing CPM space may not be a valued option. Also, SEO would be a good idea also. Google, MSN, and Yahoo! are essential.

    I'd submit to Yahoo's directory.

PPC isn't going to be cost effective for a forum site. A Yahoo directory listing will provide click through traffic (more than you might think) and a backlink that'll help in other search results.

Although, honestly, content sites, especially forums, aren't going to benefit from advertising that much no matter what advertising you do. If I were you I'd invest that $300 elsewhere and then just put your time into promoting the site using free methods (seo, link building, etc).

Might this be a forum with a focus of some sort that might be the key to figuring out where to advertise or how to promote? Or is your site a general discussion forum with no focus at all? If so, that's probably a problem in and of itself.

Anyway, I suspect you'd get better answers without the blindfolds.

I think you just pay someone to do some link campaigns. I could certainly help you to get some links coming into your site. And then spend the other half paying people to post on your site. The combination of more links and more content should do a lot toward getting your site going. That said, it still takes time, hard work and patience. PM me if want some help.

Thanks for all of the info. Yes, I still have a LONG way to go. This is my first site so it'll be a great learning experience if nothing else. I'll just keep working away and sooner or later it'll pay off.

I'm sure I'll be back for more advice. Thanks so much.
