    Cvs

    Hi!

I've realized that my method of keeping track of different versions of my application(s) isn't good enough. Creating new directories with names like "Latest", "VeryLatest", "SuperLatest", "AlmostDone!" is driving me nuts (sometimes). Anyhow, so I figured I should dive into the realm of CVS I need some directions!

I'm looking for an "easy-to-use" CVS for WinXP. I'm also looking for texts which describe the principles of a CVS, how it works, how to use it etc

    Thanks

Co-called "Cederqvist" contains all you'll ever need to know about CVS.

    Having said that...

I STRONGLY suggest you to check Subversion (http://subversion.tigris.org). It features everything CVS does and more, and it also has an excellent Windows client (http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org).

Anyone know of a guide to set up SVN locally for WindowsXP? I installed TourtoiseSVn and created a Repository by right-clicking on a new empty folder "vc_projects". What do I do now?

    Create some projects.

In the TortoiseSVN help there is a pretty nice tutorial about how to set a repository, import projects etc.

Have you installed SVN itself? I don't know whether TortoiseSVN gives you the "create repository here" if you don't have the Subversion, but I assume it doesn't.

Well I have that "create repository here" and I think I remember me installing it. Where can I find the TourtoiseSVN help?

On the bottom of Tortoise's contextual menu. It opens as CHM.

Read through sections Basic Concepts, Setting Up A Server and especially Daily Use Guide.

    RTFM, seriously

Both SVN and TortoiseSVN are extremely well-documented.
