    Casale vs. Burst

I've been using Casale for almost all my publishing of ads... I've just been accepted to Burst

who pays better... who has more inventory, etc...

    Thanks!

Burst has always performed miserably for me, but some people claim they make money with them somehow, so good luck.

they are absolutely outstanding when they get you targeted campaigns. I ran some $2.50 cpm Kyocera leaderboards recently on my cell phone site, and its looking like I might get some targeted ads from Nokia for the next two months.

just took a look at your site... you're not allowed to put that leaderboard that low. has to be above the fold.

Apart from the targetted campaigns, I can't stand Burst. Casale is so much better in terms of performance, reporting and ease of use. My casale rates are almost double that of Burst's.

i get the opposite with burst and fastclick. with the exception of pops, i get way higher ecpm from burst for every creative. you talk so much crap about burst that it makes me wonder if you even use them anymore. i'm wondering if maybe you dropped them a while back and since then things have improved? because they really aren't nearly as bad as you make them out to be.

Burst -- Good CPM, bad fill rates
Casale -- Decent CPM, OK fill rates
Fastclick -- Bad CPM, Good fill rates

And with that, there's your chain setup for defaults...

Actually Burst CPM depends on if they can get you targetted campaigns, the CPMs are pretty crappy when they can't find you good ones. Casale and FC are fairly consistent in their rates.

I want to tell you something that I am still testing, but it looks quite possible for me.

When you give Fastclick lets say 5k impressions that are what remains after Casale and Burst you might get lets say A eCPM.

If you change the way and put Fasticlick first it is possible the you will get 1,3xA from them. If you keep it that way for a while you might reach 1,5A because new campaigns will be added to your account. These campaigns might never show up if you keep Fastclick 3rd in your chain. And it is logical.

You send Fastclick 5k impr of mostly nonUS people or of people that have already seen 10 burst 10 casale ads and never clicked. They have also seen all the popular ads (smilies, you have a message) and they never clicked them. How can these people prove worthy to Fastclick and eventually too you.

I hope it is clear what I mean (sorry for my English).

The same applies to Casale. I run Casale 2nd after Fastclick for 15 days. I had 20% fill rate from them. Is it something I can count on and complain about them at forums like this? No. The next 15 days I reversed the order and I had 60% fill rate.

It all comes down to maths and to your specific site. Its not easy. And what makes it harder is that facts change. I run tests for a month. Can I be sure that after 2 months things will be the same? Of course not.

    my two cents

Funny I just put Burst banners back on my site right before I read this. We'll see how they perform for me nowadays.

I also run Burst and Casale.

The reason your Casale fill rates go down when you put them second in the chain is due to Casale now getting less unique IP's. Even if Burst is defaulting to Casale 60% of the time and giving Casale more page views, Burst will usually only default if a single unique IP has viewed the ads it wants to serve. While Casale at this point is getting more page views, it is getting less unique IP's. Causing Casale to send more defaults.

I do very well with Burst first in my chain. Casale first in my chain averages about the same as Burst first in my chain. But, there are some days where Burst pays almost double the amount for no apparent reason. Causing me to keep Burst first.
