    How long must I wait?

I just entered the realm of website advertising and SEO and it has me addicted. I cranked out my first site last weekend (yesterday and the day before :P) and been promoting it all last night and today around forums and to students at school. I am curious how long search engines, Google in particular, take to spider your website and get it listed? I have my link floating across websites as well as forums and I am extremely anxious to see some PR for my site.

    Thats the age old question...

I put a site up 5 days ago and already it has a pr of 3 on most majors...

I have a site I put up last year and am having a hard time getting it in at all.

I dont think there is a norm.

I am lead to believe that Google will spider any page that it finds a link to. Why not try getting a few friends to link to your site map for a few days. What better intro to your site for google than the page that has a link to every single page on your web.

When it's started chomping switch back to linking to the home page.

I did both methods with two sites I had and the site linked to the sitemap got spidered quicker and more pages in less time than the other.

Could be coincidence but worked for me.

Getting listed and getting PR are totally different. I've normally gotten listed within a few weeks.

However, PR (toolbar PR) only updates like 3-4 times a year. So, it could take a while to see an update there.

That's pretty interesting considering only Google uses PR

You can also submit the site directly to Google for spidering.
