Sitepoint Sig links: Do they really help?
I noticed the other day that when I browsed the forum when I wasn't signed in that I was unable to see any forum signatures. Wouldn't this also make the signature links invisible to spiders? Or did the Sitepoint admins do something to make them viewable by search engine spiders?

Good question - I don't know personally but maybe someone does. I would bet money though that if you can't see it the spiders can't either (otherwise it would be breaking many search engines rules and regs by serving diff content for spiders than for humans)

However, you can still get some great hits from SP. You just need some good anchor text to grab them in.

So we don't make link farms.....
Now you can simply not have a signiture and just copy it in to a post........

Actually it was turned off because the server is being overloaded. It helped to reduce the server load.

I believe I read somewhere that google was trying to make a point of not including signatures on forums and such in counting links. So, even if they were being displayed, they probably weren't doing much anyways. Of course displaying your links to other Sitepoint members is never a bad thing. You'll generate a few visits (at least) and maybe get some feedback, which is always a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, your sigs are hidden from spiders. This is probably going to be a permanent change.
No, you can't put your sig in your postsMike
It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.

Sigs on sitepoint are very useful for gaining traffic to your website, it doesn't really bother me that they aren't indexed anymore, i'm sure thats not the reason we include them anyway, right?
