    php.ini question

my hosting company tells me that if i need to (which i do), i can have access to the php.ini file by creating one in my cgi-bin directory. although i am a competent php developer, i've never actually taken a look at this file before. so, what is in the php.ini? if i just create one with the information i need in it, will it be looking for other information? that is, if it finds a php.ini file in cgi-bin, but it is not complete, will i be screwing up other things? let me know what you guys think please.

I didn't know that it was posible to place the php.ini file in the cgi-bin to overwrite the original, oh well, live and learn

As for the php.ini file... if you truely can overwrite it then you will need to completely replace it. For my copy of the php.ini file:
