    win2k stop error and MEMORY.DMP

    hi,

once in a while i'm getting stop errors which result in windows crashing and doing a physical memory dump to the memory.dmp file.

from doing a bit of research i found out that memory.dmp is basically a log file that could be used to debug the problem.

so, i've figured out that there is a problem. but how do i go about trying to find out what that problem actually is?

the stop errors (crash) don't seem to be happening at any particular moment. i won't even be using it sometimes and it'll die on me. anyone have any suggestions?

    specs :

    i'm running win2k professional
    2 monitor - (1) 14 inch and (1) 15 inch
    2 voodoo3 cards - a 2000 and a 3000
just installed another 256 mb of ram for a total of 512 mb

    any help would be appreciated.

How much Watt is your PSU?

Any more specs, like a listing of all interface cards, would be welcome.

    ok, here goes.

    P III 450 mhz
    512 mb RAM (128,128,256 DIMMS)

    Voodoo3 2000 AGP
    Voodoo3 3000 PCI
    ACER SCSI card
    Creative Soundlabs soundcard
    3Com 10/100 NIC
3Com 33.6 WinModem (Not in use, ie in the computer but not installed)

    1- CD-ROM
    1- CD-R
    1- 10 Gig drive
    1- 20 Gig drive
    1- Floppy drive
1- Zip drive (Not in use, had to disconnect to be able to hook up the cd-r)

at this point i still have no idea what the problem is, but could it be that the system isn't getting enough cooling? i put my hand in front the fan and the air seemed a little on the warm side.

ok, this is the exact error message that i get:

    *** STOP : 0x00000076 (0x00000000,0x81D53660,0x00000001,0x00000000)

    PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES
    Beginning dump of physical memory
Dumping physical memory to disk : (counts up to 100)

i've just about given up. maybe a reinstall might do the trick.

    Hi,

the problem is not with your Power supply, but with a driver not cleaning up properly after an I/O operation.

Here is a more detailed article on how to fix this problem
