    Best site for me

    Hi all,

Ok, this is a strange question, but I need ideas.

I'm a web programmer and developer by trade. I've done the 8-5 grind and now I want to try something different. My goal is to eventually make 3-4k a month from running a site or sites. I've saved 10k to cover startup expenses etc.

I've heard that content sites do ok with adsense and things like this. Is this a good avenue to pursue?

If you were going to start a site today with these goals in mind, what niche would you look at? Porn is not really an option.

    Thanks in advance.

I always tell people to develop a site relating to a hobby of theirs.

Do you think this is profitable?

I love astronomy, but don't know how I could make money with a site like this.

Why not code your own script of some kind and sell it at $xx-$xxx
Nothing is better than having your own product to sell.

You should not build sites just for adsense, google will strike harder on these types of sites in the future. You should focus on something that intrests you and try to build unique content.

right. because google hates making money off of adsense.

seriously, adsense is a great program. Its a little under 3/4 of my revenue currently. One of the best things about it is once you get one site approved, you can put the ads on all your other sites (assuming they meet google's requirements.)

I just started a few new sites, and adsense allows me to have ads on them from the get go. with networks like fastclick and burst, i'd have to spend time building up traffic before i could apply.

so start with adsense and then apply to some networks once you've got a site with some decent traffic.
