Dual Monitors v. 1 Large Monitor for "Increased Productivity"?

I'm going with using my Dell 19" 1703fp as secondary monitor in the dual setup, and bought the Hyundai LD09+ for primary (8ms RT, better for gaming if/when I game). Looking forward to a fun summer (if it ever stops raining this late in year).

Though I've only bought the monitors from Dell, I was very pleased with the service. One actually arrived with a dead pixel, and I returned it for another one. The second one arrived, and had none.

My understanding regarding dead pixels is that the majority of companies will not take them back at all unless a minimum dead pixel threshold is surpassed. I believe this ranges from 3 to something outrageous like 7 or 8. The fact that they took mine back with one dead pixel, without kicking up a fuss, was pretty impressive... Just my experience though

Edit: Congrats on the purchase! You'll never go back to single monitors, I guarantee it! It becomes so that working on just one monitor is almost painful .

Yeah, I don't know any good manufacturers that will replace your LCD for less than 8 dead pixels. You may have more luck with the retailer you bought from, but I'm not sure.

Too bad Samsung only replaces LCDs with 1 dead pixel in South Korea. I remember how that fooled quite a few earlier in the year.

The worst is when a red or green pixel appears center stage. I don't mind a few black or whites, like my office LCD has.

By the way, anyone ever in need of a tool to help test for dead pixels, check out dead pixel buddy.

You can pick up the dell wide screen lcd, model number 2005FPW for only $397 it's a 20.1 inch lcd, i have it and the picture is fantastic!! I honestly can't believe that dell made such a good monitor

so, honestly i can't work on anything less than 1920x1200 anymore
so yea, one monitor works for me. The resolution is what Im interested in. I like having everything on the desktop especially cause im still learning i can have my IDE on one side and a pdf or web page on the other. 30" Apples Cinema HD has ridiculous resolution but $3k and its apple...

I'm pretty sure it's a Dell, but I'm not positive (it's in storage right now). It was used at a military base. My brother won it at an auction and gave it to me. I can't really fit it into my existing setup right now since it's so big. Once I move into a house I'm sure I can find a home for it.

buy one huge monitor - that way you can work, watch movies, watch broadband, play games and do everything in your self-contained universe

i wish i had time to photoshop that - sitepoint.com would be on the bottom right. query analyzer on the top left - middle top would have irc on like 20 channels top right would be performance monitors for my various servers - main monitor would be for notifications and ide etc and the bottom left ofcourse would be pr0n.

edit jk: id probably put a pdf or web tutorial of some kind.

Yes, definitely dual monitors makes you a hundred times more productive so you don't have to switch back and forth. I think a LCD/CRT setup is the best choice because you have the CRT to get more accurate color reprodution as well as generally higher resolutions. I have an 18" Mitusbishi LCD and a 19" Samsung 955DF.

I used two monitors when I was at my last employer (until he took it away from me to send it away as the company shut down).

I found it great. I too have a wide screen, but found it wonderful to have a full photoshop image on one monitor and all the pallettes on the other.

Or my editors on one and the browser showing the web site on the other.

Alas I have but one screen now, but still use virtual desktops (Dexpot). I leave my browsers I surf with on one desktop, editors on a second, grafik programs on a third and e-mail / winamp on the 4th, then just switch between them.

If two monitors = the cost of one that is only 2 inches larger, I would DEFINITELY go with the dual monitors.

I currently run a 21" HP p1120 CRT monitor connected up to a 17" CRT on the left.

I would go for 2 19" monitors any days (LCD) in replace of my 21" (even though it's really nice)

moon you haven't used dual monitors yet, have you? Would be interesting to see what you think after 1 month in front of dual 21in. Sony's. Actually, if your not a developer, designer or programmer they might be overkill.

Dual rocks I upgraded my graphics card just after buying my pc 4 years ago. It was only to a basic nvidia with monitor and scart output. I was using my 19" monitor as my main screen and split the scart to an old 15" commodore monitor and my TV in my lounge.

I could then work and watch a DVD, or set up a dvd and then watch it in my lounge.
As already mentioned, working with two screens, one for editing and one for output, is really useful.
