Paying $1000 for a mostly useless ranking seems really not worth the money IMHO ... better to use Ranking.com ... its free and AFAIK offers more accurate ranking ...

Alexa is pointless. I honestly don't know of any non-webmasters who use it, or who have ever even been to it. It's purely a webmaster's view of what Alexa thinks is popular, so they can sell their reports to the big boy ad agencies.

I'm in the top 10k, within a few months I'll have a second site in that list.... It's always a good way to drum up ad sales when you can show respectable rankings. I personally only use it as a sample, obviously if a site really sucks it won't even crack the top 50k. Also scummier sites tend to have a really high pageviews per visitor which is the webmaster trying to inflate their ranking.

Like it or not, every ad company looks at your alexa rankings sometimes before they even browse your site!

www.ranking.com is working now, at least for me. Go there and click on the "Ranking" link. (You can search the list, so you can see where your site(s) rank too.)

Anyway, it's really difficult to say without knowing the conent of the site, type of ad, etc. A 10K Alexa warez site probaby earns a lot less than a 10K Alexa mortgage site.
