To make a decent living, you need a lot more than $1,000 a month. More like $6,000 a month

That's rather bias of you though, Matt. Sure, in New Jersey you might, but not everywhere.

For all we know he's 14 and living at home. $1k/month would be prime in those conditions.

On $6K a month around here, you live in poverty.

Exactly. $6k a month here puts you above 90% or more of everyone else.

You could live off $1000 a month if the only bills you had were modest apartment rent ($600), food $200, utilities($200). Humble thyself.

You know, actually if it's enough or not is not necessarily relevant to the question I mean, it's still interesting to see how long it took everyone to get to the same amount, whether they can live off it or not.

Took me a whopping three years to get there! In my defense let me say I also went through three pregnancies (including a total of over three months on bed rest) and two births and raising two sweet baby boys. And for a year and a half of that time I also had another part-time job. I think I worked on web development an average of 3-4 hours a day during that time.

Anyways, at last for the past three months I'm on $2k a month! Of course when you take down the nanny's salary we're back to square one

Over here, beer is pretty expensive. A six-pack of decent local lager costs around $15.00. Last nigth I brought two six-packs of Heineken at $15.00 each (and they were on special!).

Exactly, but I was going over what types of things I want to do in my future the other day with my dad and we figured out the bare minimums for living somewhere around the Tri-State area would be about $6,000. We ended up with $72,000/year. That includes income tax being taken out.

You all assume that internet marketing is his full-time job.

There is nothing wrong with bringing in an extra thousand a month on TOP of your regular income.

I'm sure many of us have contractor/consulting positions making $500 or so a day who still wouldn't complain about an extra 12k a year.

Well I am talking about $1,000 a month as your total income and that's just not possible. After Income Tax, rent/mortgage, car, insurance, food, it adds up fast.

Ever hurd of Ethiopia? Didn't think so. There's places where you would be rich if you made $1,000 a month.

Yes, but assuming he lives in the US, since he said $, $1,000 a month isn't enough to live on.

Yes, I have heard of Ethiopia.

Well in South Africa $1000 would be a very nice income. Actually quite close to what the majority of mid level jobs pay.

what the hell is everyone talking about in this thread..

here are a few things that he DID NOT ASK
-How much should I make a month to support myself
-Can I live off of 1K a month
-Please give me information on living off of 6K a month

Here is what he did ask:
-How long did it take you to make $1000 per month

To answer the question, it took me about 3-4 months to hit my first 1K/month

Yeah...way off topic. It's really hard to answer your question, though. How long to make $1,000 doing what? Of course you probably mean internet stuff, but just advertising and affiliates? How about contracting to to design or web work? Just self-employed income? Also, a lot of us started out as hobbyists, then turned it into a business. At what point, should we count from? I think your question needs clarification.

As long as it is $1,000 a month in EXTRA cash and not solely income, then it is great. Any extra cash is always good.
