css hacks

I recently cam across a bit off css with the following

width: 760px;
\width: 780px;
w\idth: 760px;

I'm assuming the second 2 are hacks but what are they for?

I believe the third one is a IE6 hack. The second one I believe is an IE 5-5.5 hack. In terms of exactly it does, check out the FAQ in this forum. I don't use these types of hacks unless I have to, they confuse the hell out of me.
