    I'm getting a good slashdotting.

Man, I've only had my site up for a month...but the traffic generated from slashdot is just crazy (for me at least). If anyone has some experience, how long will the increased traffic last? Wow.

    Slashdot

It's slowing down today. It didn't generate as much traffic as I thought it would - but there was another story linked in the submission. I think after the first 24 hours I got about 12000 uniques. My site's only 3 weeks old, so it was by far the best day I've had in traffic. I'm kind of suprised my server could take it. It was great exposure for my new site. I've seen tons of other backlinks popping up because of that story. Yesterday was also the first day I noticed natural search results from the search engines. I don't know if Slashdot helped with that or not. I've had other PR 9 sites link to me, so I think it was just a coincidence.

Every time I've been slashdot'd the first thing I do is turn apache logging completely off to help conserve resources. THEN if the page is dynamic I create a static page for it.... some topics on slashdot don't really draw that much traffic though.

something i'd be more interested in is how to get your site noticed on slashdot? i've looked over the site many times and haven't seen any opportunities.

    Link here.

Someone (including you) needs to submit a story and link to something on your page. I think they get hundreds of submissions a day...so it takes a lot of luck. If you're registered, just click on the "Submit Story" link to see how it works.

One Site I mange has been slashdotted on 5 seperate occasions - generally it lasts for up to 2-3 days. the biggest hit we got was we had over 400 visitors on a forum for over 10 hours - it brought the server to it's knees!

And if your site has worthwhile content, and a decent forum you will find you gain quite a few people every time it happens.
