windows media player in flash mx

We want to display some very large videos on our website. The problem is that we don't have a Macromedia Flash Communication server, so we can't stream the video to our clients.

Instead we have a Windows Media Server, and in the past we have always used the default windows media player to stream our videos with a .asx file that linked back to our servers.

Is it possible to include the windows media player in a flash mx website? Therefore we could use the windows media player to play our videos

    thanks in advanced!

    Hello

I will admit that my knowledge of flash and video is limited. Though I do not think you need the communication server to do it.

Check this out and see if it makes sense to you.

    Hope it helps

    Hi,
The only way i can think of is to convert your video files to FLV & then using the Media Playback component in Flash, you can stream the FLV file. Like Johnny said, you dont need Flash Communication Server for that.
    Good Luck!

Correct me if I am wrong...

I did some research on the Media Playback Component, and from what I understand, is that it is only available in Flash MX 2004 Professional.

I am using only flash mx, so I don't think that this component exists in it.

    Hi again,
I worked with Flash MX long back and started using components in Flash MX 2004 only so will not be able to answer that. I think there might be a component in Flash MX for Media Playback, do check your UI Component Panel for that. If its not there in Flash MX then the other approach I can think of is to use the NetStream class in Flash to stream your video or maybe encode your media file into a different format (mpg, avi etc) and load them in Flash using the loadMovie() command. But again for streaming purposes use the NetStream class.
    Good Luck!
