    CJ (Commission Junction) Cleans House?

Adware and Parasites - CJ (Commission Junction) Cleans House?

Just blogged about this yesterday but its good news to know so thought I would post it here.

According to a recent article in MarketWatch CJ dropped the infamous 180Solutions earlier this year and is tightening the noose around other parasite and adware type affiliates. Jeff Pullen, EVP says only 5% of revenue at CJ comes from download applications (ie. adware). I think many affiliates and managers would dispute that number.

"180Solutions was in violation of our code of conduct," said Pullen. "They were kicked out," earlier this year… An affiliate of 180Solutions, Seismic, was sued by the FTC for unfair and deceptive marketing practices…"

Here is the MarketWatch article about it.

Great news! Good to hear that CJ is reducing support for adware & parasites. Hopefully some time in the near future CJ stops supporting adware & parasiteware completely.

Good for them. Hopefully others will follow their lead.

Good news, but way overdue. They should've done this ages ago, before pissing off the power brokers at communities like ABestWeb. Not taking action a while ago was a very bad, short-sighted business decision.

And who are they trying to kid with the 5% figure? That's spin that no one who matters will buy into, so why bother.

Wonder if CJ did it to avoid a law suit from the FTC for aiding and abetting parasite and phishing sites

    Cleans House ?

    CJ must be joking....
They would never do that to clean house. Its a business decision, CJ must not be getting paid enough, so they kicked those buggers out

The official update eh? No more advertising CJ affiliate programs in adware:

    NETWORK QUALITY ANNOUNCEMENT

The ability for advertisers, publishers and Commission Junction to understand each others' activity is an important aspect of the CJ Marketplace. We openly display information within the CJ Account Manager™ - EPC, Network Earnings Ratings and program descriptions - so that you can make informed decisions about which affiliations and traffic-driving methods are best suited to your program.

In order to sustain this open marketplace of information, Commission Junction will no longer allow special programs engaged in the purchase of media from ad services that download and install software on an end-user's computer. For special programs currently engaged in such practices, Commission Junction requests that you immediately discontinue such practices. We will continue to monitor such programs to insure that special descriptions are properly updated.

As described in the Commission Junction Publisher Service Agreement (PSA), publishers who distribute ads using third-party services and/or place links on Web sites, not owned or operated by the publisher, must be disclosed as a special program. Special programs require both Commission Junction and advertiser approval, and Commission Junction reserves the right to reject a special program at any time.

Thank you for your cooperation with this policy. We believe it facilitates the trust and openness that you have come to expect from Commission Junction. If you have any questions in regards to special programs or whether or not your partnership with a specific ad service is allowed under this policy, please contact client services by using the "Ask a Question" feature in your CJ Account Manager.

    Regards,

    Terance Kinsky
    Director Network Quality
    Commission Junction, a ValueClick company

That's encouraging. Hopefully others (I'm looking at you, Azoogle) will follow CJ's example.
