configure php for mysql

on running ./configure --prefix=/usr/other/php --with-apxs=/usr/apache/bin/apxs --with-mysql=/usr/other/mysql/bin/mysql

I get a termination with this message:

configure: error: Cannot find MySQL header files under /usr/other/mysql/lib/mysql,/usr/other/mysql/bin/mysql.
Note that the MySQL client library is not bundled anymore.

Is there a work-around?

I removed the --with-mysql=/usr/other/mysql/bin/mysql
and the configure, make, make install all ran smoothly,

but

I still need the mysql support to follow the book.
