ARGG - Sometimes I want to KILL my clients!

OK, so its 10pm Saturday night .. kick back and have a drink or two right? NOOOOOOOO not with my clients. My "friend" JLT had me build him a quick 2checkout store for his new CD last week and said we would go live when the order of CDs came in... so Im sitting here watching a flick when the phone rings. Its his wife who (as calmly as she could) says "Joe Is doing an interview on XM radio so we need the store stuff to go up quicker than we thought" to which I reply, "OK, whens the interview" ....... How about he's on air RIGHT NOW telling the world they can buy his new cd from his website!

OH CRAP ............ panic, RUN to the development machine, double check the code, set the 2checkout to be live, FREAK when I cant remember which files I changes to add this stupid thing!

    AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are these people thinking! Sometimes this business just PISSES ME OFF!

    You should get caller-ID.
Your right, the people I'm "working" for are morons and can't pay me because it's school. It's not a project for school or anything but they asked me to do their website for this club. It's also for a competition.

The CD is out in Europe and Japan but the US label (Shrapnel) were being jerks so he told them "Screw You Ill do it myself" ... the CDs are late, they were due here yesterday but didnt show .... Besides that an interview on XM isnt something that happens every day ... needless to say his wife and I are gonna hang him when he gets home from the interview!

Its just normal Joe, mouth in high gear, brain in neutral!

Ah. On the other hand, processing orders before you have inventory isn't that bad. Especially if you're going on radio.

AHH but the plot just thickened.... Joes done with the interview and his wife calls me back.... THEN I GET THE REAL STORY!

Eddie asked Joe on air (eddie trunk) "So is the CD coming out in the US" Joe kind of stutters and then his wife (who didnt tell me she was there the first phone call) writes on her hand WEBSITE and shoves it in front of Joe's face.. she then RUNS out of the studio and called me (the first call) .... so SHE BS'D me the first call because she told Joe to do it!

    Sneaky women!

If these people aren't your friends I would write SOLD OUT! on the site then screw them over. You KNOW they aren't capable of doing this themselves. They screw you, you screw them. Don't let them push you around.

Well the REAL problem here is Joe and I have been friends since WAY back when... He and I have been thru thick and thin, from his glory days as a "rock star" to the days when they said "Joe who" .... its his wife that really mucks things up ... but it really does piss me off. I will make damn sure I tell them tomorrow what i think and wait till they see the bill for this one!

You guys answer your phone on the weekend?

After a long week of work, the first thing I do on friday evening is turn my phones off, and I don't even check my email over the weekend. Let everything wait until monday. I found that is the only way to keep my sanity and enjoy my 48 hours of freedom. Everytime I try to be nice and help people, or take a call on the weekend, it only ruins everything

So, the way I see it, even though I do a lot of work from home, that doesn't mean my operating hours are 24/7 all week and weekend

If you can, unplug on the weekends. Your mind and body will thank you for it

Well Id LOVE to do that but we run the same number for business and personal... I havent set up a seperate number because we are (hopefully) moving to FL this summer ... and I have a son in college so god knows what kind of stupid trouble he could get into and need us at an odd hour!

I had the same problem, I have a ton of personal clients as well, and for a few years, I did everything I could to be available to them whenever possible, because I wanted to be a nice guy. But, I'm done being a nice guy, because it is impossible to maintain the relationship and bend over backwards to help and still enjoy yourself, it is a difficult situation.

And I know about using the same number for everything, I still do that today as my primary cell phone is how almost everyone contacts me. But even still, once the weekend starts, I either turn the phone off and only use it when I need to make a call, or I screen every call very carefully.

Of course, that is just me, and I hate dealing with people in general

DC, if you're willing to do a last-minute, rushed, weekend job for anyone, you should make sure they are willing to pay your "last-minute,rushed,weekend" rates.

When she called you about this, it was a moment where she probably would've agreed to just about any pricetag! That may be a good time to get a client's agreement to a "rushed, weekend" rate. Not to say you should rip her off, but you may want to charge a fee that makes working on the weekend worthwhile for you.
