Hasn't this been a feature for a few days? I have been getting a lot of notifications that there are new threads in the forums that I am subscribed to.

Just a couple suggestions/comments about this.
    First I really like it.
But I have received several blank emails - no subject, no message, just a return line of "SitePoint Community Forums Mailer".
Also the emails that I do get say "xxx has replied to a thread you are subscribed to" (as opposed to "xxx has started a new thread in a forum you are subscribed to").
Then at the bottom is "You are receiving these "new thread" notifications because you are subscribed to the PHP and MySQL", missing the word forum. And finally, it doesn't list anything for the excerpt.

It's getting really annoying, is there anyway to turn it off?

What ever happened to the "View new posts" link? Am I overlooking it somehow or was it removed?

Go into the "My SitePoint" part of the Control Panel and it will show you the forums you're subscribed to. You can unsubscribe there.

Is this somehow different from the vBulletin 2.0 feature, or are you posting about this to inform less experienced vBulletin users about it?

The vB2 feature doesn't send mail when subscribed forums have new threads. Wayne has "hacked" this functionality into it.

It doesn't? What's it do, then?

    Um...

    [whisper]nothing[/whisper]

Honestly it doesn't do much of anything. It is going to be revamped for 2.1 so it does *something*, whether that be send emails, create a 'favorite' forums page, or both, or something else entirely.

What a concept: a feature that does nothing. Weird.

That's why we came up with this motto:
vBulletin - The most feature-laden forums available*

*disclaimer: some features may not function and are implemented for reasons of this claim
    LOL j/k

Right now the feature is turned off while I put some more control into it.

Currently in vBulletin the subscribed forums feature really does nothing. It shows a list of favorite forums in the user's control panel.

This seems like such a waste to me. So I am making some changes to it... Unfortunately with my going away for a week these changes will not take place until July.

When I get back the feature will allow members to get new thread notifications on their favorite forums. They will be able to choose from no notification (current vBulletin feature capabilitys), per thread, daily or weekly notifications.

While this won't be much use for people that visit every day it will be useful for those that can't and tend to only check out a few forums when they do visit. With the different levels, people will be able to customize their account to fit their needs. For those who have broader needs and don't want notification of specific forums, 5 (one for each channel) new weekly Community Updates will be introduced to keep them up to date in the broad changes that happen here.

In a recent request for feedback from hundreds of members, I consistently got three responses....

    1. Make it easier to customize their experience.
    2. Enable more ways for notification of new traffic
    3. Remind them of upcoming and specific events.
