    Video codecs

Anybody know anything about video codecs?

I just installed Divx 5.0 thinking it was an upgrade and would improve compatibility with the files I have.

The opposite happened... now a bunch of them don't play anymore!!

How do I undo this or what is the best approach for achieving the most compatibility?

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

I'm no expert on Codecs but I have installed a few months ago a 5.something DivX Bundle and since then all movies are playable here... maybe you just didn't get the latest download available(?)

Well, most movies nowadays employ either Divx 5.x or Xvid...depending on the encoder you'll need different filters though...

    a) minimal install: just install XVid and let it handle all Xvid and DivX content
--only install ffdshow, ac3 etc when a video doesn't play properly

    b) maximum install: install a codec pack (i.e. Tsunami)...
