    My Free Promotion Method

    Hi,

Just like to share with you my free promotion. I am not sure if it is working or not.

I paint my domain name on my bags and walking slowly in the busy streets and shopping malls. Relax, enjoy and do promotion at the same time!

I also paint a very red BIG domain name on my green umbrella. The domain name singing in the rain

That's exactly what I was planning! How is it working out do you think?

I always have a bag with me when walking or cycling, so I thought a big WWW.STARTPAGE.IE printed on it couldn't hurt. Maybe even give some free bags to my friends

It seems like a good way to get some extra exposure. Every little bit helps.

Hey! That's a great idea. I can put my domain name on my briefcase.

Then when people see me, they will run home and visit:

You kinda look cocky going around with your site's name on your bags. Though I have seen some sites producing quality T-shirts which give good promotion.

Although, your domain name should be meaningful for people who'll see it on your T-shirt and wish to visit it. Otherwise, it will be like in JerryHobby's post

Anyway, this method is great for websites that are communities based on interests (programmers, musicians etc.)

    Hi,

I am not sure if some visitors came from such promotion.

I forgot to tell you. I I carried a even bigger bag with my domain name when I walked exhibition and trade show. Wow... over thousands of people seeing my domain name in just a few days.

    All these ideas are great.

I want to do cycle advertising, on my back (on the luminous jacket I have) and on a branded umbrella (colored in my colors) and do things differently, like virgin does - although having said that I do not have a need to run down the street naked....

I'm going to my local IT Fair, collect cards - say hello - then ring each of the directors up and invite them to lunch and talk to them on how I can help them.

Actually, I don't think they cared too much about the domain name written on your bag. Unless you haven't design it in some very flashy way.

Stick an advertisment up at your local service station where you fill your car up, that way you get lots of viewers.

I cant believe I just suggested that XD

Why not get a shirt designed with your URL on it? I don't think it really costs that much

You could buy a special memorable domain name just for your umbrella, then have it redirect to your site at www.I-stuff-my-domain-name-with-keywords.com

Suggestion for an insurance website to go on an umbrella:
Don't get caught in the rain go to Bonedry.com
    etc.

Of course if your site sells umbrellas you've got it made!

I am afraid the traffic increase is not very remarkable. However, my website has steady traffic increase in the past few months.

If I have spare incentive, I will advertise in some hosting directories.

    Anyway, just enjoy life everyday.

from reading all the posts it does sound like a good idea but there is nobody here who has actually stated that it has increased his traffic so it might be possible that this form of advertising is entirely ineffective

    Hi,

There should be some shops in your local area that make the T-shirts. The processes are something like:

    1. Take a photo first (remember to bring your printed big logo).

    2. Iron the photo into the T-shirt.

My friend once gave me a t-shirt with his domain on it for my birthday.

    I liked it. =)

Hey, Good ideas there! If you're going to have to carry a bag or use an umbrella, you might as well use one with your domain name plastered on it.

If you had the space though, it might help to include a short tag line to help describe the site. You know, something like "Save money on car insurance at www.gecko.com"

But to be honest, I don't think it would phase me if I saw an umbrella or a bag with a domain name on it, and chances of me remembering it by the time I got home and online again would be slim.

keep in mind offline promotion is best for name recognition. If the domain is easy to remember and you can plaster it everywhere, after a year or so (yes, a year or so), the name recognition will start sinking in. Be prepared to plaster your URL in lots of places. Advertising is everywhere these days - the trick is making them remember it...
