I second that. Kentucky is a beautiful state. Since I'm in a neighboring state which gets all the same generalizations as Kentucky, I think I can poke a little fun at the tri-state vocabulary

So Matt, did you receive a call back?

"Matt who? SitePoint? Uhhh. I dont *gulp* remember any SitePoint. *wipes sweat from forehead* Must be fans of my website, since I get so many hits from there. heh *uneasy laugh*"

I love the Kentucky accent and local vocabulary.
...but please don't make generalizations like that about Kentuckians being uh, well, hill billies.
I don't think Matt needs anyone sticking up for him but I think it's a bit of a leap to construe his comment as an attack on Kentuckians in general. I certainly didn't read them that way.

'Stone the flaming crows, mate', we all have our own colloquial vocabulary (Poor Australian slang) and are proud of them. They are part of what makes us different and special, and that is why people travel the world. To meet people that are different and special. I'd be mortified if I stepped out of a taxi on Park Avenue and the porter said 'G'day Maaaate.. o'right if I getcha cases'n'that?'

And certainly anyone who's seen Matt speak can tell you speaks with a whispy Canadian drawl. The only people completely free of accents are those who type in forums

Ditto to everything that Alex said.

And no, I haven't heard back from him yet. Doesn't surprise me though since I did mention I was from SitePoint.

What you mean to say Alex is "yes mate i know mate i dont think he mate meant it like that mate, ok mate? lets just have a barbe mate and forget about it mate mate!" </dig on australians>

No but seriously we do all have our own accents and stuff, down here in NZ our english is very relaxed compared to alot of other countries. My mother is english although shes lived down here for 17yrs now...here english friends say her accent is a kiwi one whilst friends down here its british!!

I must say I've found this whole thread most hilarious. However the design seems to have been taken down and all the sub pages too. But for how long!

Is this site snatching on the increase?

I've just had mine *exactly* copied, you can see the sitepoint discussion about it here

After an email threatening legal action they have removed it (also i think quite a few members of the web design community picked up on the issue and emailed them too, cheers )

I saved a copy of their rip which you can see at the end of this discussion

Really makes you wonder about some folk....

    Hi,

Does anyone have he pages in history? Please go into Offline mode and try to find them then replicate them. Post them here so we can all see them for those of us who were a little late.

    Thanks

For the record, it appears that the owner of day-spring.net had hired a designer who was copying sites without his knowledge. We have been assured that this employee has been dealt with.

Man i never considered all the time i could save if i just stole every design instead of looking for honest templates or making them. Wow what a good idea, Better yet i could sell stolen designs to my clients... Imagine how pleased they will be when they are contacted by the "real" designer. Man it is just amazing to me how I could have overlooked this time and money saving step. theft.... Who woulda thought

I think I'm going to hurl if I see another site stealing our design... I've had to deal with this problem well over a dozen times over the past 4 years. Most of the time, I didn't even get an apology from the perpetrators.

All fairness to the guy this could of been possible but don't you think this is also the best excuses he could come up with to get out of it and try save himself embarrassment?

Don't try to feel to bad Matt you should see what happened to phong (phong.com) When the site was being closed and not updated for a bit some guy registered ph0ng.com or something simular and started adding his own updates pretending to be the phong guy. Was quite funny actually, to think that someone could be that lame.

Don't be to hard on the guy though the site afterall is called "Newbie central" and he still hasn't learnt how to spell downloads correctly yet. Maybe "newbie central" is yet to run articles on spelling (like I can talk ? ) and copyright laws ?

True, but as long as they stop stealing designs (and I'm not so naive to believe that they will), we're satisfied with the outcome.

    You should be flattered....

That SP is so well designed that so many people would want to copy it...LOL.

You know it's pretty pathetic, with just a little effort, it's not hard to design a decent site, and there are plenty of template sites out there that give away very nice designs. Depending on what a client is willing to pay, I will design from the ground up or I will use one of these template as a starting point. But to copy an existing sites entire layout and only make a few minor changes to logos, etc is pretty bad...

Reminds me of when we discovered this "freebie" site that went and registered all his competitions domains, but added "com" to the end of thier names...(for example...www.abcsite.com, he would register www.abcsitecom.com) so that he coiuld get all the traffic from ppl who forgot the period. Needless to say, he was bombarded with nastygrams over that and his forums were attacked by users of these other forums...as in this case, the excuse was he hired a contracter to increase his hit ratio and was unaware that this had happened....me? I don't buy it..but you can if you want to.
