    ie/win giving a div clear: both

    http://www.bnagel.net/treecare/

    the div with the name "contentarea" - it says "here's the index page" - is meant to be just below the menu. the menu floats left and the sidebar floats right. but whether i have contentarea's clear set to none or left, ie shows it as if it had clear: both (underneath the level of the bottom of the sidebar). in firefox it displays how it should.

    any ideas?

    thanks a bunch

    Hi,

    It's ie's 3 px jog again for the tenth time today I think

    You need to kill it quickly.
    Code:
    #sidebar{margin-right:-3px;}
    See faq on floats for more info

    i read that, dammit.... it's just hard to see this problem and realise it was a 3 pixel shift thingy. guess i'll see the clues with more experience.
    but that's fixed it! brilliant. but in fact margin-left: -3px; fixed it better.
    thanks very much.

    Yes thats correct I meant margin-left . Its the side of the float the touches the static content that needs to be shortened. (The negative margin doesn't actually change anything because ie has already addded three pixels on.)
