    StartUp of 'mysqld.exe' under Windows'98

I dwnld'd MySQL (for Windows), most recent version via MySQL,AB's mirror site, SourceForge. I kind of think I may have been too hasty, i.e. have not paid attention to install details. That said, when I attempt to execute mysqld.exe, an error msg is generated that reads as follows: " .. Can't initialize InnoDB as 'innodb_data_file_path' is not set. .."

Please, where did I mess up?

    Hi,

Usually, mysql and apache are pretty straight forward to download and test. It's getting php configured with apache that takes a bit of doing. I would try re-installing and if you can't get it to work, avoid all the hassles and download this pre-configured package for windows:

    To Firepages:

Thank you for the input. You note that a password is not needed just yet. When will it be needed? What is the cost to use this download, maybe not immediately, but later?

    Regards,

    To Shin Ma:

Why should there be costs? Maybe not. However, the pre-download msg noted to press CANCEL for Now. Suspect of reading this too far, "for now" suggests 'try this. . . ." then after a trial there is a fee. If there is not, then fine.

    Thank you for your reply!

    Ta for the link 7Stud

qutron its all free, for ever and ever.

you can add a password for mysql when you want to , if you actually want to serve pages to the www from your machine its essential! , till then its not that important unless you have any really valuable data in your DB on the offchance of someone getting your IP when you are online with apache and MySQL running.

To answer the original question, mysqld.exe now contains support for transaction-safe table types like InnoDB, which require that additional configuration parameters be set in your C:\my.cnf file (or C:\Windows\my.ini) before they will work.

Simply use the provided mysqld-opt.exe (which does not have transaction support) instead, and you will not encounter the problem you are seeing.
