    MySQL and PHP localizing

I'm looking to get into PHP and MySQL heavily soon and I was wondering what would be the best setup for designing PHP and MySQL locally with. Should I go with a windows system, running apache and MySQL or a Linux server system? I am planning on using one of my current computers just reformatting and configuring it to match whatever you all suggest, but I am also trying to keep it cheap so either a regular windows system with server emulation or should I switch to a Linux system and run a server off of it. What would you suggest as far as operating systems and any extra software that would be needed?

I recently installed phpdev423 on WinXP -273560 downloads to date says something. It was up and running in just a few minutes. As Lats said, there are many install packages available. Just pick the one that feels right to you.
