    win2000 dial-up connection problem...

when i try to connect to the internet from home, i open the dial-up connection dialog box and click on the connect button. once i click on that button, my computer freezes up, the mouse and keyboard are both frozen. i have to reset the computer using the physical reset button.

is this a common problem and is there a patch to fix it?

    tia...

    HI,

have you made sure you have the right drivers on your computer for your modem?
Have you installed any of the service packs?

no, i haven't installed any of the service packs yet. i'm downloading sp2 right now...

the weird thing is that it worked when i first got my laptop and then one day it just started freezing at that point. i just didn't know if something could've been corrupted or what.

    thanks!

well, i installed sp2 and i had the same problem. then i went into settings > control panel > phone and modems and changed the com port. it worked!

i guess i kind of worked backwards on this problem, trying to think of the most difficult solutions rather than the very simple ones. you would think that windows would automatically adjust the com ports so users don't have conflict problems...

    oh well, thanks anyway big_al!
