Adobe has entered into an Agreement to purchase Macromedia for $3.4 Billion:

Anyways, I'm not too sure how I feel about this. Adobe basically secured themselves a giant monopoly in the graphics software industry.

Hmm...I hope this doesn't effect things like dreamweaver in a bad way. I feel like dreamweaver has always been better than golive.

It will be interesting to see how or if Adobe restructure the product range. They could drop GoLive and replace it with Dreamweaver. Drop Fireworks and Freehand and introduce Flash CS! Does SVG have a future if Adobe own Flash?

Well with Flash running on like 99% of the computers out there, I would certainly say that here to stay for a while.

I think they will kill SVG

Also "Flash CS" sounds creepy to me, and so does "Golive MX"

I don't know whether I think this is a good thing or not. Apart from Photoshop Adobe were behind Macromedia.

Indeed, this news is real BIGGY!

Dunno why, but I always was fascinated by Macromedia applications and their user friendliness. Whereas, Adobe is "boring" (personal views) on all the fronts, even with their logo.

I'm a self-proclaimed Photoshop hater :P Any idea what will happed to my favorite FireWorks MX then?

$3.4 Billion? *spits out cup of tea* geez, that's a lot of money... kinda reminds me the time when Microsoft bought Hotmail.com all those years ago for around $300 million.

Makes me wish I could make a site/company/brand that'd be picked up for a couple of million *laughs*

That was me who started the thread in 'graphics and multimedia', but I guess the powers that be decided to delete my thread and start it afresh here.

So I don't get to wear my "I spotted it first" t-shirt today.

This certainly gives them a vast monopoly in terms of online presentation formats - it'll be interesting I guess to see where they take it - hopefully not some kind of flash pdf hybrid though
