do negative z-index values work in Mozilla?

Negative z-index values are a legal part of CSS:

However, I can't get them to work in Gecko-based browsers. Can you?

When I try to give an item a value such as z-index:-1; the item dissapears in Netscape6. If you can get an item with a negative z-index value working in Mozilla, please post the page for me to see.

Anyway I don't think negative z-index values work in Netscape. Try using positive instead.

Negative z-index values are a part of the spec and are needed if the user want to position elements behind the body.

well that's the catch then isn't it. In Mozilla, it IS working, you just can't see them.



Why not just turn the visibility OFF on that item?

Question: how do you position an item behind text that has no z-index value in Mozilla?

In IE you use a negative z-index value for items like text that don't have any z-index value. I can't change the z-index value on the text for various reasons (page is assembled dynamically and there aren't consistent tags ... )
