Dropdown menus not working

Hello all,

I been having an issue with a form on my site that has a lot of dropdown menus (134 to be exact). The form requires that number of dropdowns, and it's layed out in a table format.

On all WinXP/2000 machines, the form displays fine, but on some Windows 98 and Win ME machines, the dropdowns appear blank, and are non-functional.

Oddly, it does not affect all Win98 machines, as I have no issue displaying the form properly in IE6.0. on my Win98 pc.

I have not be able to determine, why my Win98 machine can handle the form, and some other Win98/ME machines can't, or why it's happening in the first place.

Hoping someone had an idea.

I think your answered your own question right there ... IE 6.0 .. what version of IE on the machines that WONT display them!

IE6.0 on both working and non-working PCs. Same updates on each browser. Same settings on each browser, went through the setting options list. Same version of Win98 on both.

This has been a long standing issue, I am posting here because I have exhausted all the possibilities I can think of.

Anyway, I've looked at it in IE5 and I couldn't see any problem...

And no it's not a joke, simply an adult personals site. When you work on this stuff all day, it all looks the same, and there were no graphics, and I assumed mainly adults were on this site.

And frankly, I'm sure kids can find a lot worse than that in just a few seconds online. But thanks anyway, didn't mean to offend anyone.

Nothing wrong with Dreamweaver. Comes down to the user, not the software Knowing basic html and css would not cause all that sloppy code we see at the link provided.

Anyway, nysig - I would definitely lose the MM dropdown menus though - they are a horror and should not be part of the DW package - to be used by unsuspecting newbies. Hopefully this will be remedied in a later version......

I have a feeling that's what Kravvitz meant...

Personally, I like Dreamweaver. I just don't think people should use it to produce any javascript, because frankly, it's not very good for that.

Well there is less wrong with Dreamweaver than there is with Frontpage but still.

I know several people who know basic HTML but have no clue about things like validation, doctypes, or separating presentation from content and structure by using CSS.

Sure you can clean up messy code produced by WYSIWYG editors, however, it seems like most WYSIWYG editor users don't.

There are more ways to code tableless layouts than with just absolute positioning.

If a professional web developer feels that Dreamweaver makes him/her more efficient, then it is his/her choice to use it.

I have a much higher opinion of the Suckerfish Menu System than this author, however, he does explain the pitfalls of DHTML menus well.

So in this case, what are the viewers on this forum recommending to do as the best method instead of using the Macromedia Dropdown list (especially with strict XHTML)? Create a stylized list class like the one at SEO Consultants?
