    rewrite url hiding

    hi guies ,
    I'm new ti apache ....
    the problem ....
    i want to redirect
    say
    http://mydomain.com/foo ---> http://otherinternaldomain.com/

    but the url should not be visible to user i.e the user should assume it as http://mydomain.com/foo but webserver and page should be different

    I'm sure that pippo will correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe that you can hide an intersite redirect using mod_rewrite - you'll actually be transferred to the other server.

    Now, if both domains are your own and on the same server, it's likely that your DNS will allow a "frame redirect" for the ENTIRE otherinternaldomain.com site.

    Why bother with that when you can just as easily make foo an HTML frameset page with otherinternaldomain's page as the top frame and a newly created (blank) webpage as the lower frame - with a height of 1 pixel.

    I don't know why you'd want to do that as a visitor can "load frame in new window/tab" AND you'd be disabling bookmarks ... but that's your choice.
