Talking Suggestion: subscribe to thread in "Quick Reply" box

I know this can be resource intensive at SitePoint, but probably not everyone subscribes to most threads anyway.

I would like to suggest and ask opinions on a "Thread Subscription" option right under the quick reply box, this is simple and easy for the staff, and most usefull for SP members.

This is mostly due to subscribing meaning one of two things, either you choose REPLY and mark the option, or click 2 more times after the "quick reply" use and subscribe to the thread, plus the confirmation/redirect page. So in the long run I think this could mean an advantage...

    Please don't hurt me

I think that is a pretty good idea, I also was wondering if there was a way to use AJAX to subscribe to a thread. That way, the page never reloads. I know it would have to be a custom change, but it might be fun to try.

What if you do not want to subscribe to every thread you reply to?

I personally want to subscribe to almost every thread I reply to... and I find it a lot easier to unsubscribe from threads I don't want to be subscribed to (that I have replied to) than having to subscribe manually to each.

Anyway, what's so much harder about scrolling up to the Thread Tools button and clicking on subscribe than having it at the bottom of the thread in the quick reply box? I don't see how that would be much easier, personally...

I subscribe to every thread I reply to and have the forums email me when there is a new reply - I find this the easiest way for me to keep track of updates etc here on the forums.

If you don't want to subscribe to many threads then I think it would be quicker to subscribe to threads using the link in thread tools, rather than remembering to make the decision for every reply you make.

    Bleys:
Wouldn't it be easyer next to the "Quote message in reply?" option have the "Subscribe to thread?" option (marked by default if that's the case) and just deselect it on threads you do not want the subscription? Rather than taking the time to unsubscribe. (It doesn't take that long, I know! But if you have to do it often...)

    Rick:
I am suggesting this because I'm starting to see a lot of threads that I do not want subscribed (as oposed to the normal rate) and thought other members also passed by this situation.

No one wants the full featured WYSIWYG in the quick reply that's why it's quick and there's the "advanced" reply for full features!
But I find this to be usefull, and a small change, saving SP servers from a couple of more clicks to subscribe/unsubscribe in these particular cases.

    All, IMHO

I really like the idea, and it would only take minutes to implement.

Yes in deed it would be useful although I am adopting the same technique as Rick for the moment
