Security risks when uploading MP3's

Does anyone have any good advice with regards to making my server available for accepting MP3 uploads From vistors to my website I ask with regards to security and namely virus issues or has anyone had experince with this and can share some info?

Do you at least check the extenion before uploading? Do you have a anti-virus software running & especialy scanning that one folder for new files?

my server is protected by the host I think I should have a chat with the provider and see what what they have got to say about it Im wondering if Sql databse driven Script like nuke or similar may hold the answer and offer protection
