    Intelligent refresh?

    Need some help here.

    I know you can code an automatic page refresh but what I need is some built in intelligence.

    If , after refreshing, the page contents have changed, I want a wav file to play. If nothing has changed then no wav file is to play. In other words, I must be able to keep the page open - surf over to other sites - and once someone else changes something on the page, it should alert me in some way that a change has occurred. If a sound file is not possible then any other method would do.

    Is this possible?

    Would appreciate any assistance.

    That could be done in any number of SS coding or in Java.

    You would have to say something like.

    IF page content has changed (using last modified date or something similar)

    THEN Play Wav File

    ELSE don't play Wav files

    </cheapattempatcoding>

    Her'es the gist.

    Each user is given an id.

    In the db you store the last page that id accessed and the time.

    When next that id logs in you check to see if anything has changed based on current time vs last changed time vs last logged in time

    Can't give you code since I don't know the db, server side language or anything that you're using.
