Preventing files opening in associated programs?

Hi guys, my first dabble into the client side scripting pages.

    /removes php goggles

Can I link to a .pdf document on my site so that it open the safe file dialogue and overwites explorer trying to open it in the associated program even if Acrobat reader is installed on the client machine?

    TIA

    Matt.

    Hi,

The easiest way would be to zip the pdf file.

I've read that other thread but I need to use scripting (Javascript will probable do it, but I don't know how) to force the viewers browser to start the 'save as' dialogue rather then open in the brower.

Personally I know what I'm doing with browser settings etc, but it's not feasible for me to change the settings on 3000 computers all over Europe.

Ok, well then the answer to your original question is no.

You cannot force a browser to Save a document that it is programmed to open.

I just spent about 15 minutes searching and there are lots of people asking the same question as you, but I found no answer.

Thanks for looking creole. I searched a load of places myself with no luck.

Oh well, users *shudders* (can I say that word here??) will have to go with files opening then.
