Java on Linux

I am trying to install Volano Chat (www.volano.com) onto one of my servers and it says to use:
"java vchat_2_6_4 -o path".

Problem is, I get:
"-bash: java: command not found"

So I installed "Sun Java 2 SDK HotSpot Server VM version 1.4.2" which is on the requirements page (http://www.volano.com/guide26/requirements.html).

I still can't use the "java ------" command. Whats up? What do I need to do?

I feel stupid. Just needed some more messing around and I got it installed.
