Wow, that is damn amazing. I kinda figured it was going in this direction. Have you seen what EA sports and some of the other major sports video game makers are doing? Those games look almost real now. They use the actual athletes as the models for the game, so I can easily believe what your link shows...

    Truly Amazing...What's next?

Wow. The shiny surface of his eyes look a bit odd, and why is there that blurry bit at the bridge of his nose?

I have a feeling they would have scanned the textures from somebody's face. Somebody with a similar face to their model's.

Very impressive. Once they start doing this at 24 frames per second, with motion blur, they can have digital actors in movies.

They'll still need voices though, and unfortunately they're not so good at synthesising the human voice yet.

How difficult is it to create something like that. Is it more technology dependent or creativity dependent?

Depends what you want to do with it... if you just want to render it as a still pic it's purely talent, skill, and creativity (the slower the comp the longer it will take). But if you wanna manipulate it in real time or do something else useful with it, it'll take some meaty hardware.

There was a guy doing a masters in 3D graphics and creature animation at the place i used to work at. He showed me some of his work (all in Softimage), and it all redered and moved in real time... but his SGI indy was attached to a 4 SGI Origin2000's .
